The Nursery

Our 50 week Year round Nursery provides a happy and gentle introduction to our youngest pupils and we are justifiably proud of our ‘Excellent’ grade in all areas in our most recent ISI report - February 2023

Our specially designed Nursery provides the children with an environment which is secure, bright, happy and stimulating. The Nursery is led by a Norland trained, qualified teacher supported by qualified practitioners. Being in beautiful Beckington means we have access to a world beyond the nursery and school gardens – our wildlife area, our stunning field and walks around the village to see the small holding are all within easy reach and are part of our routines.

Last year Nursery and Reception classes were shortlisted for the prestigious ISA Award for Excellence and Innovation in Early Years 2022.

Early Years Curriculum

Children learn through exciting and stimulating themes that incorporate the seven areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. This curriculum encompasses the prime areas of development: personal, social and emotional development; communication and language and physical development.

The specific areas of development grow out of the prime areas.   They include essential skills and knowledge for children to participate successfully in society; literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive arts and design.  The key principles which underpin the curriculum is the belief that each child is unique, positive relationships are crucial and that the provision is enabling.

A large proportion of children in the nursery move into the main school.  Strong links between the nursery and reception class ensure that the transition is calm and happy. Children in the Nursery have access to the main School facilities, they familiarise themselves with the whole school environment, and are included in whole school events.

The Nursery children benefit from specialist teachers for music and French.  The Nursery class hosts performances such as a Nativity play at Christmas, in the Summer term a Class Performance and at Harvest time they perform in the church.   Parents are invited to watch at all these events.
